Celiac Disease?

Today was Gavin's first doctor's appointment with Dr. Alberty (the pediatric gastroenterologist) and it went well. He is checking him for a few things, but thinks it sounds like Gavin may have Celiac Disease. Which is basically an allergy to gluten. Which, by the way, sucks, because lots and lots of stuff have gluten in it, including bread! They drew some blood and the tests should come back in a week. If it is positive for celiac disease, then they will have to do an endoscopy on him to confirm the diagnosis. We go back in 2 weeks. I will keep everyone posted!

I have a good friend with a child who has Celiac Disease. I can put you in touch with her. She has learned lots about it over the last few years.

i dont know much about Celiac Disease but it seems like i hear lots of people talking about having it, so the positive side is that if it is (or becomes) somewhat common that means that gluten free foods will become more and more available. i know WM marks their GF products and whole foods has lots of GF stuff.

UGH. Celiacs is seeming to become more & more common these days, have no idea why.
My son David had Celiacs as a younger child, but thankfully it was not true celiacs and he outgrew it when he was about 8 years old and has been in "remission" for 7 years!
It was a really difficult disease to manage back then, but because it is more common and people are eating more organics and natural foods, finding gluten free foods aren't as difficult as it used to be.
If Gavin does come back positive, please email me. (or email me before if you would like to chat. LOL) I can give you tons of great websites and recipes.
